What happens if I spill water on my bench-top?
Water Spills on bench-tops are inevitable. At Modern Power Solutions we frequently receive this question:
What happens if I have a pop up power outlet installed and there's water spills on the bench?
The short answer is that we design most of our models for kitchens, and they can safely withstand spills. In this blog post, we’ll dive into more details.
Water Spills
If you spill water near your pop-up power outlet and the outlet gets wet, the first thing to do is switch off or disconnect the power, either under the bench or from your household electrical control panel.
After disconnecting the power, dry any water on the unit and above and below the bench-top. Once the water is dry, wait 24 hours before reconnecting power to the unit. From here, you can continue using the pop up power outlet as normal.
Installation considerations
To comply with local building and electrical regulations, install a pop-up power outlet at least 0.8 meters (or 3 feet) from any water source or sink. This distance reduces the risk of large amounts of water reaching the outlet and causing long-term damage. While the 0.8-meter rule applies in many areas, always check your local laws to ensure proper installation.
Sealed models
Some models, such as the V3 range, have a seal that protects against water ingress when in the closed position. If water is spilled above the bench-top and the unit is closed, simply drying the area around will allow you to use it again immediately.
Other considerations
We design our models specifically for kitchens to handle everyday kitchen activities. However, we advise limiting spills around the product whenever possible to maintain its longevity. Using a circuit breaker like an RCD or GFCI provides additional protection and enhances safety.
