Before you cut your island

  • Space underneath. Point Pod needs 17.72" (450 mm) of clear depth below the countertop, plus room for its cord and the outlet it plugs into. Hubbell units have a compact, low-profile body. Check drawers, cabinets and services first.
  • Power supply. Point Pod plugs into a grounded, GFCI-protected outlet inside the island. Hubbell units are hardwired by a qualified electrician.
  • Seating on both sides. The Hubbell Dual-Sided has one outlet on each side of the raised unit.
  • Cut-out size. Point Pod: 4" (101.6 mm). Hubbell Dual-Sided: 3.47–3.63". Hubbell Tri-Power: 4.00–4.16". Download the template drawing from the product page before cutting.
Code, listings and safety
  • Hubbell receptacles are cULus Listed receptacle assemblies for kitchen and bathroom countertops, in accordance with NEC 406.5(E). They meet UL listing standards for NEC 406.5(E) countertops, 406.5(F) work surfaces and 406.5(H) seating areas.
  • Point Pod is ETL Listed for the US to UL 962A and for Canada to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 308. It has no built-in GFCI protection, so it must connect to a GFCI-protected outlet or circuit, installed in accordance with NEC 406.5(E) and local codes.
  • All three are designed for indoor countertop use. Hubbell units are water-resistant and tested against spills of up to half a gallon. Point Pod is IP44 rated for indoor, dry locations and is not waterproof.

Requirements vary by location, so have your electrician or inspector confirm what applies to your kitchen. More on 20 amp and GFCI options

Questions about island outlets

Do I need an electrician?

Hubbell units are hardwired and must be installed by a qualified electrician. Point Pod plugs in with its 6 ft cord, but the countertop still needs cutting and the unit needs fitting, and any electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician.

Will it work in a stone or quartz island?

Point Pod's top cup is supplied empty for a matching piece of your countertop, up to 1.18" (30 mm) thick and finished to 3.66" (93 mm). Our 4" Point Pod hole saw cuts the opening and the insert in one cut. Hubbell units suit countertops 0.56–2.13" (Dual-Sided) or 0.56–2.50" (Tri-Power) thick.

15A or 20A?

Both Hubbell models come in 15A and 20A versions. Choose the one that matches your circuit and have your electrician confirm before ordering. Point Pod is rated 15A.

How fast is delivery?

Orders placed on business days normally dispatch within 24 hours: Point Pod from Irving, Texas, and Hubbell from Boise, Idaho. Delivery typically takes 3–7 days, and two-day express is available at checkout. Free shipping covers most US addresses; we may contact you about addresses outside our free zones, including Alaska and Hawaii. Shipping details
